We hope everyone’s New Year has been off to a great start. Liam has been doing well the past few weeks, he’s around 16 pounds now, and as of today he’s 5 months old 🙂
We can’t believe how fast the time has flown by. Since leaving the hospital, we have continued to routinely monitor his weight, heart rate, oxygen saturation levels, and breathing patterns – we check these levels every other day, sometimes daily just to make extra sure he is doing okay.Similar to the past few posts that we’ve made, Liam is continuing to show signs that he’s outgrowing the shunt that was placed back in August. We know this because these levels and measurements that we’re monitoring are slowly declining.
Next week we will be going back to the hospital for Liam’s cardiac catheterization appointment, and his medical team will be able to get a closer looks at his heart, especially the alignment of his arteries/vessels as well as the measurements/pressures of his unique circulation. If all goes as planned, he will have his next major open heart procedure about 2-3 weeks later, which is called the Glenn procedure. During this operation he will be safely placed on cardiac bypass, they will re-route his circulation to help make blood flow from the upper part of the body (the head, neck, and arms) go directly to the lungs, and he will spend 1-2 weeks recovering in the cardiac ICU.
This little guy has brought so much joy and happiness in our lives. His bravery is inspiring, and seeing him smile and hearing his new found giggle just warms our hearts. We will do all we can to help him get through this next hurdle, and we are so grateful for all the continued encouragement that we have received. Your prayers and support mean so much to us. Thank you.
