At a recent visit with Liam’s cardiac team we learned that we have to start preparing for his next open heart surgery next year, a major cardiac operation called the Fontan procedure. This surgery involves redirecting blood flow from the lower body to the lungs. We knew Liam would need this surgery, but it’s still very difficult to prepare our hearts and minds for what this will involve. We will provide an update on when the estimated date will be as we learn more, but until then his medical team will keep a close eye on his oxygen saturation levels and how he’s doing at his upcoming appointments.
