Liam has been doing well the past few days since getting home from the hospital. He’s enjoyed visiting with family, watching his favorite cartoons, and working on some fun art projects with his big sister. Yesterday we experienced a little bit of a hurdle in his recovery that we were aware could possibly happen after his recent heart surgery due to his unique cardiac anatomy and heterotaxy.
When we brought Liam in for his surgical follow up yesterday, his team noticed that there was some fluid developing in his chest that was significant enough to be readmitted into the hospital, and his team is suspicious that it is a chylothorax. This is a rare condition in which lymphatic fluid leaks into the space between the lung and chest wall. When this fluid builds up in the lungs, it can cause a severe cough, chest pain and difficulty breathing. Liam had to go in for another surgery this morning to have a chest tube placed and help remove some of this fluid. He is recovering well and his incredible providers are watching him closely. ❤️
Praying loudly for our favorite superhero! Much love and healing prayers for Liam from The Clark’s ❤️🫶🏼
